What is the Child and Family Support Team Initiative?
The 2005 Appropriations Act, Session Law 2005-276, provides Legislative authority and funding for the School Based Child and Family Support Team Initiative.
Its purpose is to identify children at risk for academic failure due to physical, social, legal, emotional, and/or developmental factors; and then coordinate appropriate services for the identified children.
Hopefully through the coordination of services the outcomes of the identified at risk students and families will be improved.
The Seven Practice Principles That Support The CFST Process
Family, children, and youth are full partners.
The family leads planning.
CFST meetings are a safe, supportive place for all members.
Meetings include people who can help the family succeed.
Plans are built around what families do well and fits with their beliefs.
Members are committed to the plan and share responsibility for successful outcomes.
Plans are changed when they are not working for families.
