“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” - William A. Ward
I am originally from LaGrange , NC. I graduated from North Lenoir HS in 1992. I graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Elementary Education and a concentration in History and Reading in 1996.
I began my teaching career right out of college at Carver Heights Elementary in Goldsboro, NC where I taught 2nd grade. In 1999, I transferred to Brogden Primary in Dudley, NC where I taught 4th grade for 7 years.
In 2006, I was named the Wal-Mart teacher of the Year in Goldsboro, NC, after being nominated by a parent and her son.
In 2007, I transferred to Carver Elementary School where I was named Teacher of the Year for the 2008-2009 school year.  I also received the Outstanding Young Educators Award from the Mt Olive Chamber of Commerce and was selected by RBC Bank Tribute to Teachers in 2009. I have presented at the Wayne County Summer Institute and at the NC Reading Association Conference 2008/2009, 2015.
In 2012 I earned my National Board Teacher Certification in Literacy: Early/Middle Childhood.
I have also won numerous grants from Bright Ideas, Donors Choose, and Wayne County Chamber of Commerce throughout the years.
I have served on the NC Pickle Festival Committee as head of the Tickled Pickled Poetry Contest. I have served on this committee from 2010-2014.
At Carver Elementary I have served as a 4th grade Reading teacher, leader of the Carver Ambassadors, assistant of the Carver News Team, and School Webmaster.

I have the honor of teaching two Reading blocks. It is my desire to empower each child to see reading not as a chore that must be conquered, but as a skill that is as natural as breathing.
