Guidelines for Keeping Your Student at Home

CDC recommends that people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8°C]), or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.  This is also Wayne County Public Schools Policy.

What symptoms should keep me at home?

  • You have a fever of any kind - you could be contagious.
  • You're suffering from achy joints.
  • You have a persistent cough accompanied by green mucus buildup and a runny nose.
  • You have a severe sore throat.
  • You are throwing up.
  • Your eyes are bright red and have a discharge.
  • You have an unexplained rash.

What symptoms are normally OK to go to work with?

  • You are sniffling, but don't have a fever. You could have allergies.
  • Your throat tickles or you have postnasal drip.
  • Your ear aches, does need to be evaluated by the doctor for possible infection.
  • You have a sinus infection.
  • You have a dry cough with little or no mucus.
