English as a Second Language (ESL) at Carver Elementary

I am very pleased to be part of the Carver family.  My goal here at Carver as an ESL teacher is to help English Language Learners ELLs) to improve their English language social and academic skills.  ESL classes focus not only on developing students' vocabulary in all areas of knowledge but also literacy skills. Emphasis is placed on all language domains: listening, reading, writing, speaking and comprehending.

ESL follows the English Language Development Standards which in turn are aligned to the Common Core Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.  The five standards are:

1. English language learners communicate for social and instructional purposes within the school setting.

2. English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts.

3. English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Mathematics

4. English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Science.

5. English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Social Studies.
